The Alliance is the recipient of a USDA Waste Diversion grant that funds the following community initiatives through mid-2011. The Alliance, in partnership with Eagle County government, is researching expansion of recycling and waste diversion programs throughout the Valley with these grant funds.
-Research yard waste collection. -Explore composting options. -Evaluate construction and demolition waste disposal. -Complete end-market research. End markets are the place where a disposed material will be recycled or reused after disposal. Without an end market, or a demand for a disposed product, the cycle of reuse or recycling cannot be completed. -Determine feasibility of pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) trash collection. PAYT collection is a trash/recycling system that encourages users to increase recycling through charging users for the amount of trash that they dispose. More details can be found on the EPA's PAYT page. -Complete a 10-year Eagle County waste diversion plan. A stakeholder group -comprised of the Alliance, Eagle County municipalities, Honeywagon and Waste Management- has worked together on the above tasks. The Eagle Valley 10-Year Waste Diversion Implementation Plan has been completed and a final version can be found here: Eagle Valley 10-Year Waste Diversion Implementation Plan The Alliance is currently working with all Eagle Valley Municipalities as well as Eagle County to adopt diversion goals, and implement the 10-Year plan.
