Kim Langmaid PhD - President & CEO

kimprofileKim joined the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability (EVAS) in February 2013. She has been involved in environmental sustainability, collaborative conservation, place-based education, and nonprofit leadership projects in the Vail Valley since 1990s. Kim is the Founder of the award winning Walking Mountains Science Center where she served as the organization’s first Executive Director. Prior to joining EVAS, Kim was the Colorado Program Director for the National Forest Foundation where she oversaw the Hayman Restoration Partnership with the US Forest Service, Vail Resorts and other major campaign partners. Kim is passionate about engaging people in environmental stewardship and sustainability projects that help sustain and conserve Colorado’s mountain ecosystems for future generations. She teaches courses in the Colorado Mountain College Sustainability Studies BA program and serves on the boards of the Vail Leadership Institute and Walking Mountains Science Center. Kim holds a BS in Biology from Colorado State University, an MA in Environmental Studies from Prescott College, and a PhD in Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England. She is a graduate of the Colorado Nonprofit Leadership and Management Program and has 15 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, development, and administration.

John-Ryan Lockman - Energy & Waste Programs Manager

John-Ryan was born and raised in Athens, Georgia and graduated from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies. After working for the Vail Resorts Environmental team John-Ryan joined EVAS in 2010. John-Ryan has managed the Main Street Efficiency Initiative funded by the GEO, which has helped over 25 local business to save energy and money, hosted the Eagle County Waste Steering Commmittee, developed the USDA funded 10-Year Waste Diversion Plan, as well as assist in the facilitation of the Energy Smart program here in Eagle County. John-Ryan has a broad spectrum of experience covering everything from advanced Building Science techniques, Commercial Energy Efficiency measures and coaching, compost education, Waste Diversion calculation, and building codes. He is a BPI-Certified Building Analyst and member of the Colorado Association for Recycling. In his free time he enjoys photography, downhill biking, telemark skiing, and live bluegrass music.

Melissa Kirr - Education, Outreach, and Office Coordinator

melissa2013_2Melissa has a passion for the environment and looks forward to sharing it through the efforts of the Alliance. She has lived in Colorado’s Central Rocky Mountains for over 10 years. She holds Environmental degrees from both Penn State University and University of Montana in Missoula. Before joining the Alliance she worked at Betty Ford Alpine Gardens for 6 years as the organization’s Garden Supervisor. Melissa has also worked as a botanist specializing in Forest Health Monitoring (FHM) and Ozone projects for the US Forest Service. Melissa enjoys hiking, camping, snowboarding and just celebrating nature with her husband and 2 daughters.
