The Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability fosters alignment of community and environment through leadership, education, advocacy and service.
The Alliance is a community organization promoting sustainable practices in recycling, energy & renewable power, and green building. In 1995 a group of concerned citizens and environmental leaders organized with the goal of creating a unified platform to share information and unify separate environmental efforts in Eagle County, Colorado. The group originally formed as the Partnership for Environmental Education Programs (PEEP). PEEP administered Earthfest in 1996, was involved in countywide recycling efforts, and established the Environmental Committee for the 1999 World Alpine Ski Championships. Toward the end of 1999 the first staff person was hired to run the Green Star program, maintain public recycling drop offs, and grow the organization. In 2001 the group changed its name to the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability, to better represent its programs and goals. With various local partners, such as Holy Cross Energy & Eagle County, the Alliance operates a number of programs designed to educate and enable citizens in sustainable practices. |
