In 2011, the Alliance will continue its focus on energy efficiency, green building, renewable energy and waste diversion. We will also further develop our community education and outreach programs, including the Green Guide, the Big Green Think and Party for the Planet. Energy Efficiency and Green BuildingTo promote energy efficiency, the Alliance is kicking off a brand new program to promote energy savings among Eagle County businesses. We will partner with 25 local businesses to help them save energy in a pilot program funded by the Governors’ Energy Office. In addition, the Alliance will work with all Eagle Valley municipalities and key stakeholders to develop a green building code across the Valley. A uniform building code will improve energy efficiency and make it simpler for architects and builders to meet the code across multiple jurisdictions. Finally, the Alliance also continues promotion of the Energy Star for New Homes program to encourage more Energy Star homes in Eagle County. Waste DiversionThe Alliance is the recipient of a USDA Waste Diversion grant that funds the following community initiatives through mid-2011. The Alliance, in partnership with Eagle County government, is researching expansion of recycling and waste diversion programs throughout the Valley. Composting programs, yard waste collection, and construction and demolition waste are being evaluated for the community. In addition, a stakeholder group, comprised of all municipalities and waste haulers, is involved in creating a 10-year waste diversion plan for the Eagle Valley. Green Lodging SummitTourism and hospitality is the largest business sector in Eagle County, and the reason most of us are able to earn a living here! As a result, the Alliance supports the efforts of our local lodging properties working towards a more sustainable community. The Green Lodging Summit is a group of dedicated Alliance business members, including some of the largest hotels in the Valley. This group meets regularly to share best sustainability practices, educate themselves and demonstrate local leadership in sustainability. Green Lodging Summit participants include the Sonnenalp, Westin Riverfront, Antlers, Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek and Vail Resorts lodging properties. Thanks to Our SupportersThe Alliance would like to thank the Governor’s Energy Office, Eagle County government, Holy Cross Energy and the USDA for their continued support of our community programs. We also appreciate the support of our dedicated business and individual members, who allow us to continue our commitment to a more sustainable community. |
