New for 2011, the Alliance is launching the Energy Smart Business program to assist small and medium Eagle County businesses with energy savings. We are currently seeking business applicants for the program and will enroll a total of 25 businesses for 2011. The program goal is to save energy and provide energy efficiency expertise to business owners or managers. The program has been a huge success so far and we only have a few more spots available!
Program Details and Participant Benefits
The Energy Smart Business program is an opportunity for participants to become leaders in community energy efficiency. Participants will learn ways to save energy and be recognized for efforts when energy savings are realized. There are financing options and rebates available through local utilities and the Governors’ Energy office for energy savings programs, and participants will be educated on these opportunities. We also recently received additional funding and are able provide 80% of project costs up to $3000 in rebates! The Alliance will provide the following to participating businesses.
- --“Energy coaching” to assist businesses understand their current energy usage and ways to reduce energy consumption.
- --The Alliance will work with each business and its utility companies to gain historical electricity and natural gas usage/costs. Businesses will then begin tracking their energy usage/costs each month.
- --The Alliance will assist businesses with scheduling energy assessments or audits from a utility or contractor.
- --Once an audit is completed, the Alliance will review recommended energy conservation measures and help the business determine the best measures to implement. Examples of energy conservation measures include lighting retrofits, programmable thermostat and energy management system installations, heating and ventilation system upgrades, insulation and building envelope improvements, etc. The Alliance will educate businesses on available utility rebates and other financing options to assist with implementation.
- --The Alliance will assist each business with selecting qualified contractors to implement energy saving measures and to verify that the measures are saving the amount of energy promised.
- --The Alliance will also promote program participants and their energy savings results within Eagle County.
- --The Alliance will provide and administer internal rebates for participants who implement energy efficient measures, 80% of project costs up to $3000 (download rebate form HERE)
Applicant Requirements
- --Small or medium business/facility located in Eagle County. (Yes, the size is a little vague. We think of a hotel as a “medium” size business if that helps for perspective!)
- --Must directly pay utility electricity and natural gas bills.
- --Must own or have control/access to lighting, heating and ventilation systems, etc.
- --The Alliance will consider businesses or facilities on a case-by-case basis. We know that energy savings is often challenging when businesses lease space. If you are interested in participating, but don’t quite meet the requirements above, please give us a call.
